Barcelona's economy historically has relied on trade through its port, also the industrial sector was gaining weight in the nineteenth century after the industrial revolution, especially in the textile sector in the first period to be extended after the publishing industry, chemical, pharmaceutical, automotive, logistics and electronics to convert the province of Barcelona's main industrial area of the country. But growth and prosperity of the city of Barcelona was driving the industrial areas off limits. Due to this fact the city's economy has gradually increased its focus on trade, catering, and especially tourism, which in recent years has grown tremendously in the city, making it one of Barcelona's economic mainstay.
