The city of Barcelona in 2008-2009 had a total of 423,790 students, this raises the proportion of students on the population living in Barcelona at about 25%. All these students are distributed among different levels educativosde as follows: 57,027 students in kindergartens, 76,923 primary, 2,097 students in special education, 100,564 students in secondary and finally, 187,179 students studying in the universidad.
These figures demonstrate the power of educational institutions, especially universities in the city. Some of them are among the best in the país, and others even enjoy international prestige, and appear well positioned in some rankings internacionales.
